For the 25th time in their career, sisters Venus and Serena Williams will face each other in the Semifinals of the Rogers Cup. To advance to the semi-finals the two had to come from behind in their quarterfinal match-ups to win. Venus defeated her opponent Carla Suarez Navarro 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while Serena went on to defeat Caroline Wozniacki 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

So far in the battle of the Williams sisters, Serena is 14-10 versus Venus and has actually won the last five matches between the two. Both of the sisters have repeatedly stated throughout their careers how much they dislike playing each other when deep down they have to love it. Especially, at this point in their careers where they appear to be almost finished — this match-up is a much watch.

Serena has all of the momentum heading into the semi-finals after defeating Wozniacki, who had won eight straight matches. After her match with Wozniacki, Serena was asked about the possibility of playing her sister in the semi-finals:

“I definitely don’t like playing her,” Serena said. “I think I’ve lost to her more than anyone on the tour, so it’s definitely not a fun match. She’s tough. She has a great serve. She runs every ball down. She has a great backhand. She hits winners off the forehand. She does everything well, so it’s not an ideal matchup for anyone, to be honest.”

Serena wasn’t very satisfied with her performance in the quarterfinal matchup, but she is aware her toughest test is ahead of her with Venus. With their careers winding down, this may be the last time we as tennis fans get to see the sisters square off.
