About a week ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder decided to part ways with head coach Scott Brooks. A week later, ESPN’s NBA Insider Marc Stein has reported that the Thunder have been in talks with Florida University head coach Billy Donovan about their coaching vacancy.

Donovan is highly respected in the basketball world. He appears to be the clear-cut favorite to succeed Brooks in Oklahoma City. He has been contacted by other NBA teams in the past like the Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers and even the Minnesota Timberwolves. He actually agreed to coach the Magic back in 2007, but then changed his mind.

The main reason he is the favorite is because he apparently has a really “close” relationship with Thunder general manager Sam Presti. Presti has already hired two members of Donovan’s staff at Florida within’ the last year.

During his career at Florida thus far, Donovan has posted a record of 467-186 and won back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007. This season, the Gators failed to reach the tournament for the first time since 1998. That may be the deciding factor on whether he stays or goes at this point.
