NFC West Breakdown: St. Louis Rams

The pour St. Louis Rams. Not to say that because they’re not a good team, but more because – unfortunately for their sake – they happen to be in the NFC West.

They finished last season with a record of 7-9, one game under .500. And I should add, they didn’t necessarily make that 7-9 season look impressive.

The Rams haven’t finished the regular season with a winning record since 2003 – yea, when Marc Bulger was the starting quarterback. Sam Bradford was drafted No. 1 overall to be the franchise quarterback in 2010, but things haven’t turned out the way St. Louis envisioned.

Since Bradford has arrived the Rams have a combined record of 23-40-1, even though he missed six games in 2011 and nine games in 2013. But needless the say, the Rams just can’t seem to right the ship.

Bradford’s best season statistically was in 2012, where he threw 21 touchdown and 13 interceptions – not the most impressive numbers.

Head coach Jeff Fisher was hired in 2012 to help resurrect the franchise – but he’s only led them to two seven-win seasons.

They have talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Chris Long and Robert Quinn are arguably the best pair of defensive ends in the NFL. Quinn had 19 sacks last season, good for second in the league. The Rams were also ranked ninth in rushing yards allowed last season. But, three of the teams that were ranked ahead of them in that category — were all in the NFC West.

It just comes to show how dominant this division has been over the last two seasons. I have to be honest when I say – it’s rough on the Rams. There’s not an abundance of talent on the offensive side to help balance things out either. They were ranked 30th in total offense last season, which isn’t going to win you too many games.

Some teams are able to find ways to win when their defense isn’t great, but there aren’t too many that will have a winning season without a above average offense. Seven of the top 10 offensive teams last season, also made the playoffs – get the point?

I see this being another difficult season for the Rams. They’ll compete on a weekly basis, and stick around in games. But, it’s hard to see them have a winning season. They haven’t upgraded much on either side of the ball, unless you want to acknowledge the signing of wideout Kenny Britt, who’s a walking injury waiting to happen.

With the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and the improved Arizona Cardinals all residing in the NFC West, the Rams have a lot of work to do before they can become relevant again.

Juice,it appears that a single-payer system in the end game in all of this. Institute this mess, watch it fail miserably then blame all of the insurance companies. If done right, you will have the people screaming for single payer in the next year or two.
