Javier Mascherano has signed a new deal with Barcelona, ending all speculation linking him with a move back to Liverpool.

The Argentine defender has signed a four-year deal with the club, ruling Liverpool out as a possible destination.

The former Red has excelled since making his switch to the Nou camp back in 2010, but with contract talks halting, there was speculation that he may be on his way out of the club, with former employers Liverpool keen to re-sign him.

But he has committed effectively the rest of his career to the Catalan side, and he spoke after completing the deal.

The World Cup finalist said: “I’m committed to this club until the final day of the contract.

“I hope I can live up to the expectations of the club.”
