Jason Day is looked at as one of the underdogs on the PGA Tour. If it wasn’t for the dominance being shown once again by Rory McIlroy, who is the current leader sitting at -9, Day would be in great shape as the leader. Instead, the Australian sits in second place at 6-under 65 and is only a shot behind McIlroy.

After an incredible Day 2 of the tour, Day’s afternoon consisted of three successful birdies, and even an eagle all within his first nine holes. After his bogey on the 15th hole, Day then redeemed himself as he birdied on both the 17th and 18th holes.

On Day 2, of the PGA Tour Championship at Valhalla, McIlroy leads all headlines. McIlroy is indeed seeking a second major in a row. Just a few weeks ago, he captured the British Open Championship. With him as the current leader all of the excitement is on him as he tries to win back to back majors which hasn’t been done since 2008 by Padraig Harrington.

The already three-time major winning McIlroy is continuing his dominance and consistency throughout the tour and it will be a difficult task for Day, but as hot as he’s been — the sky is the limit. Ryan Palmer, Jim Furyk, and Rickie Fowler are all right there as well sitting right behind Day at 7-under.

Keep in mind, if McIlroy does win his fourth major he will join a great company in active players who have won more than three majors which includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els. Here is the top ten leader-board after Day 2:
