After 14 seasons in the league, 35-year-old defensive tackle Justin Smith has decided to retire.

Smith, who played for both the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers, was very fortunate to have outstanding health throughout his career, playing in at least 14 games every season.

The team’s CEO Jed York stated that Smith “will always be remembered as one of the 49ers’ all-time greats.”

In all 16 games last season, Smith compiled 28 total tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles. In addition to being a five-time Pro Bowler, he will finish his career with 613 total tackles, 880 combined tackles and 87 sacks.
